My grandmother and I are the only ones left in Singapore because my parents had to go to Australia for work. They have to stay there for a month because a long-term project was assigned to them. Since I am busy with school, I can not take care of my grandmother for 24/7 so my parents decided to hire home care services.
Luckily, we found an elderly nursing home in Singapore that has responsible and kind caregivers. We would not have found it if it weren’t for our neighbour who also has elderly parents to take care of. Thanks to her, there would not be someone who would properly take care of our grandmother.
There was a time that my grandmother refused to go with our parents’ decision of hiring a home care service. She was so stubborn because she told them that she could handle things on her own. They do not have to worry about her. She doesn’t want a new caregiver to accompany her because it would be too awkward and uncomfortable to let a stranger personally take care of her. I understand why my grandmother is adamant about this. We had a domestic helper before, and she got attached to her that she treated her like her own daughter. But the domestic helper had to quit because she needs to come back to her home country. My grandmother was so saddened about what happened and she doesn’t want to experience the same sadness again. But my parents still insisted so, in the end, we still hired a caregiver.
Home Nursing Care
What we liked about this home nursing care in Singapore is that they would provide caregivers that are compassionate and kind hearted. I’ve seen how the caregiver takes care of grandma. Whenever I come home from school, I always see her and my grandmother laughing and talking happily to each other. Because of this, I saw how my grandmother changed from a grumpy, old woman to a cheery and positive one. No longer does she look empty and depressed all the time. Sometimes, the caregiver would bring over some of her fellow caregivers to help with the lifting and transferring. I was amazed by how great their teamwork is when it comes to it. They would make sure that my grandmother would be safely transferred from one place to another.
Longevity Day Care
Sometimes, we also let our grandmother join the nursing home’s longevity senior day care in Singapore. This is for her to become more socially active even though she’s a senior already. In this program, she would be able to interact with other elderly people, and she would be able to exercise her muscles thanks to the maintenance exercise program.
Thanks to an elderly nursing home in Singapore called Orange Valley, we can rest assured that our grandmother’s well-being is taken care of even if we’re not always right beside her.
