Having eczema isn’t a pleasant experience. If you had eczema at least once in your life, you know how difficult the struggle can be. What’s worse is that there’s no cure for eczema at all.

Unfortunately for me, I’m prone to skin irritation. This makes it harder for me to prevent my skin from getting different types of eczema.

Recently, I had eczema on my face, so I had to undergo treatment. I visited an eczema specialist in Singapore to see how I can heal my skin and prevent this from happening again. The doctor gave me a special ointment to apply on my skin daily.  He also told me to use mild soap and avoid taking hot showers for long periods to avoid drying the skin.

I’ve seen the positive results appear days after I used the topical medicine on my skin, but I also can’t help but wonder about how I can prevent this from happening ever again. So as soon as I went back for my next checkup, I spoke to my doctor to see what I can do to reduce the risk of getting eczema.

Here’s what I learned about eczema after treatment!

1. No cure? No problem

As previously mentioned, there’s no known cure for eczema. However, you can find ways to prevent it from happening. Also, there are topical creams and ointments that you can use to reduce the severity of eczema.

Since you can’t instantly vanish eczema from your skin, all you can do is to apply topical creams or ointments. Some of these ointments will depend on the extremity of the skin, so you have to consult with your doctor first to see which one is the preferred method for treatment.

2. Resist the temptation of scratching

Having an itch you can’t scratch is one of the most infuriating sensations ever! When I had eczema on my face and hands, it was frustrating since you can’t scratch it.
I know it’s hard, but if you have eczema, you shouldn’t—at all costs—scratch it! Scratching damages the skin, and the more you scratch it, the more it will itch, leading to a vicious cycle of itching-scratching.

3. Avoid hot showers

Hot water can dry out the skin easily, so it’s best not to use take long hot showers. Lukewarm water is the highly recommended choice, as told by my specialist. You can choose to bathe or shower in hot water as long as you’ll make it quick.

4. Wear clothes made of cotton

If you have eczema, your skin is extremely sensitive to anything it touches. This is why you should wear clothes that allow your skin to breathe more freely. Clothes made of cotton are the ideal choice as they’re usually more comfortable to wear compared to other textiles.

If you have eczema, maybe you can use all these tips I’ve learned during and after my eczema treatment in Singapore. With that said, I highly recommend going to Healthsprings for expert advice on various issues such as dermatitis!
