Growing up as an only child is not that easy. Since both of my parents are working, I am mostly alone at home. I learned how to become independent at a very early age, but as a child, there was one thing I could not escape from then. It was the teasing of my classmates.

Back in primary school, I was the only girl taller than the boys of my age. That was why they called me names like BigFoot. Even though I am not as hairy as that fictional character, my feet are bigger and wider than an average person has.

For a girl, having this kind of feet is a nightmare. As much as I tried to accept my flaws, they became my insecurity. As I grew up, some people found it interesting that my feet are size 9. But then, others teased me and called me a giant. Of course, that nickname did not help with my self-confidence. Somehow, that became a trigger for why I started wearing shoes that are smaller for my size. I thought that binding my feet this way would help me hide my flaws. But years later, I found out that I have a bunion on each foot.

My parents were not able to warn me that I have this condition as a kid. Maybe because I also hide my feet away from them. Whenever they buy me shoes, I secretly change the size to smaller ones. Therefore, I could not blame them for not telling me that I have a bunion on each foot. When I consulted a doctor, he explained to me that I probably developed it while growing up. But he was thankful that my condition was not worse, and I would not need bunion surgery in Singapore to get treated.

To further explain what happens, read the rest of my review. Let me share with you how my journey went.

I WENT TO A RECOMMENDED ORTHOPAEDIC CLINIC.

It took me two years before I realised that there was something wrong with my feet. Back then, I thought it was normal since I am wearing smaller shoes. But the discomfort becomes worse as time passes. That was why I switched back and wore the right shoes for my feet, but nothing changed. The pain continued to prick my feet, and I noticed some swelling on the side of my big toe.

From the moment I saw that, I had a hypothesis on my mind, but I wasn't sure if I was right or wrong, so I went to our family doctor. He diagnosed me with bunions. After that, he asked me to go to an orthopaedic clinic in Singapore. He said that since this condition was not his practice, he could not help me treat it. That was why he was referring to getting treated to the facility he knew would take good care of me.

CONSULTING WITH THE SPECIALIST.

The moment I went to that orthopaedic clinic in Singapore, the staff greeted me with a smile. They tried their best to answer my questions, but they thought it would be better to get answers from my doctor. Since my appointment was a few minutes away, I decided to wait and wrote down all the questions I have in mind about my condition.

My efforts of doing that paid off since when I handed that piece of paper to the ankle specialist in Singapore, he answered all of them, one by one.

Anyway, at the end of my consultation, I found out that my condition was not worse. I could get treated without bunion surgery, and hearing that made me happy.

THE COMMON CAUSE OF BUNION.

During my consultation with the ankle specialist, he carefully examined my feet and explained what could be the cause of my condition. Here are just a few of them.

  • Genetic heredity
  • Trauma
  • Wearing the wrong size of shoes.

Among the causes he mentioned, two of them, I am sure, were the cause of my bunions. Since I want to get better, I told him why I thought that way. After listening to my story, she said that there is nothing wrong with having big feet. Some people even want to have one, but they cannot. Hearing that made me change my views. I think getting a bunion was a blessing in disguise because I was able to overcome my insecurity.

SHOULD YOU ALSO GO TO AN ORTHOPAEDIC CLINIC?

I think you should because if the bunion left untreated, it could cause you more problems. In my case, I do not want that to happen. Experiencing the pain of bunions was something that I do not wish to happen again.

That is why you should not make the same mistake as I did.  Learn to love your feet no matter how big they are, and make sure to go to an orthopaedic clinic in Singapore to keep them healthy.

If you were wondering where I went, I got treated at the Specialist Orthopaedic Centre. Their ankle specialist in Singapore helps me get better and overcome my insecurities.
